About the event

The people of Iceland come from more than 150 countries, and in Icelandic elementary schools there are students who speak at least 44 other mother tongues than Icelandic. How can you ensure that everyone in the community gets the necessary information? How do we understand each other? Gauti Kristmannsson is a professor of translation studies at the University of Iceland and discusses the importance of translation and interpretation in Icelandic society. Agnieszka Ewa Ziólkowska, vice-chairman of Efling, is from Poland and tells about her experience of working in the Icelandic labor market. The moderator is Saga Kjartansdóttir, interpreter and translator at the Icelandic People's Association. Varða - the labor market research institute, ASÍ and BSRB are organizing a series of lunchtime lectures on the right way out of the crisis. At the meetings, theoretical discussion is interwoven with experience of the organized work of trade unions and other non-governmental organizations. The meetings take place via Zoom and are open to everyone. The meeting will be held in Icelandic and Polish. An interpretation is offered and to use it you have to click on a small globe that appears in the bar and select an interpretation. You can select "mute original sound" to hear only the interpreter.
